Course summary
OVERVIEW
Our new part-time masters degree supports doctors pursuing a career as an emergency medicine specialist.
It provides you with an academic qualification recognising the emergency medicine and general training completed during your early training years.
You’ll complete four core units, Evidence-based Practice, Education and Training in Practice, Leadership in Clinical Care Settings, and Research Methods. These units provide you with invaluable transferrable skills, wherever your future career may lead.
You’ll also complete two specialist units, Trauma Emergencies and Paediatric Emergencies, and a project related to the field of emergency medicine.
Some of the topics you’ll consider include cardiac arrest and severe meningococcal disease in children, blunt and penetrating major injury, and musculoskeletal injury to the limbs.
We teach you via blended learning, through methods such as online sessions, face-to-face tutorials, and group work to help you network and share best practice with fellow students.
CAREER PROSPECTS
As a graduate, you’ll have a postgraduate award that recognises your academic training.
You will have the skills to critically reflect and evaluate current professional, educational and clinical practice.
You’ll be able to apply research to practical and theoretical situations, and plan, implement and evaluate projects.
We offer three routes to a postgraduate qualification depending on the number of credits achieved.
A Postgraduate Certificate in Medicine (Emergency Medicine) is awarded for completion of 60 credits comprising the following units: Evidence-based Practice, Trauma Emergencies and Paediatric Emergencies.
A Postgraduate Diploma in Medicine (Emergency Medicine) is awarded for completion of 120 credits comprising the following units: Evidence-based Practice, Trauma Emergencies and Paediatric Emergencies, Education and Training in Practice, Leadership in Clinical Care Settings, and Research Methods.
For the award of MMed (Emergency Medicine), students are required to complete the 60-credit Project in Practice in addition to the units listed above.
