Mathematical Physics BSc (Hons)

Overview

This Mathematical Physics degree will give you a solid understanding in both mathematics and physics. The course offers a wide range of mathematical and physics topics, and also gives you the option to transfer between Mathematics and Physics at an early stage. Our Mathematical Physics degree will also give you an extensive range of computer modelling skills.

Accreditation

This honours degree in Mathematical Physics is accredited by the Institute of Physics (IOP) for the purpose of partially meeting the educational requirement for Chartered Physicist.

The course enables learners to: • develop their knowledge, understanding and subject skills related to the concepts and application of mathematics and physics. • prepare for employment or further learning by providing opportunities to appreciate the relevance of their field of study towards industrial or professional aims. • develop personal abilities, particularly in communication and presentation.

Teaching and Learning

We adopt a flexible and responsive approach to teaching and learning. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and to adopt a deep approach to learning. They are encouraged to discuss with staff any problems at the earliest opportunity and student feedback is obtained for individual modules and through staff/student liaison meetings held each term.

A range of techniques is applied to the teaching and learning experience for the students, including lectures, experimental laboratories, literature searches and presentations.

Annual review of teaching and learning is made in the light of feedback received from students, examination results and external examiners' reports, etc.
