Course summary

- Join a contemporary programme designed to suit the current and future job market- Benefit from small class sizes with a low student to staff ratio- Gain valuable industry experience on an optional Sandwich year work placement- Develop your problem-solving skills using mathematical and statistical techniques in mathematical applications- Acquire the knowledge, understanding, technical skills and confidence to operate successfully in an international and globalised work environmentAre you seeking a modern four-year integrated masters programme that allows you to immerse yourself into exceedingly advanced and cutting-edge mathematics? Our MMath programme has been structured to introduce you to the major branches of mathematics and enable you to develop your understanding of its coherence, logical structure and wide variety of applications. You also discover the values of research and in-depth study using mathematical tools and resources, and have opportunities to model various phenomena and interpret numerical data.Led by an outstanding and accessible team of research-active academics, you will gain exposure to the world of the pure and abstract where sophisticated applied mathematical techniques will provide you with a holistic mathematics education. Our programme shares its core modules with our BSc, ensuring that you have a strong understanding of key topics from which to develop your interests, while its final year is intended to give you a glimpse into more advanced mathematics and its applications. And there is no shortage of fascinating and challenging modules to encounter, including Group Theory, Number Theory, Real Analysis, and Graph Theory, as well as modules on Optimisation Techniques, Statistical Methods, Artificial Intelligence and Cryptography. In addition, as part of your final year, you will undertake an independent research project that interests you in the form of a Master’s Thesis.Core modules in the first year include Linear Algebra with Differential Equations, Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Algorithms and Computer Programming, Analysis and Discrete Mathematics. You build on these in Year 2 with modules such as Numerical Methods, Abstract Algebra, Career Management, Mathematics for Finance, and Real and Complex Analysis. In Year 3, you progress to Statistical Modelling and carry out your own project tailored to your interests. Optional modules may include Machine Learning, Fundamentals of Surrogate Modelling, Advanced Linear Algebra, and Philosophy of Mathematics, among others. In your final year you will complete a dissertation and seminar.
