This practical BA in Media and Communication will give you a strong understanding of the media industries - TV, film, new media, newspapers, radio and also covers trends in media culture and communication.

Media and Communication has a really interesting range of modules such as Researching the Audience, Multimedia Skills, News Culture and the Public Sphere, Digital Games and Gamification, and PR and Social Media. There are hands-on projects in publishing, journalism and writing for the web, print media or the screen. Our strong links with employers - such as independent film producers, radio stations and newspapers - can help you gain vital work experience and there’s even an option to study for a semester in America.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN
There will be formal lectures, seminars, tutorials, group exercises, workshops, debates, screenings and hands-on projects in areas like publishing, journalism and web writing.
OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Derby has a good number of creative media companies who are eager to take students on internships or placements. And unlike other larger cities, like London or Nottingham, there is less competition for these opportunities. We also hold regular careers talks which enable you to network and build up your contacts in the industry.
CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY
Media and Communication graduates go on to work in a wide range of professions including PR, communications, marketing, TV research, film and TV production, film archiving, radio presenting, radio production and journalism. Others have used their degree for higher level entry into, for example, the Civil Service, charity management, customer services, postgraduate study and teaching.
