BA (Hons) Media and Communication is an innovative media-based degree course that allows you to develop specialist knowledge of the concepts, ideas, practices and methods that characterise contemporary media, communication, and cultural studies. The course offers you a carefully considered mix of theory-led and hands-on learning through research-based projects, giving you a well-rounded learning experience, and equipping you with the skills you’ll need for employment.You will:- Critically

equip you to workin relevant industries or to

This combination is brought to life in our modules, which encourage students to produce dynamic academic work, and to create exciting and impactful public-facing outputs. Indeed, the teaching team's research actively changes the world around us via research papers in leading journals, books, audio-visual outputs, and impact and policy work.Our graduates understand how media technologies and representations shape our lives, and how communication can be used to affect change in the world.
Extended DegreeThis extended degree provides an alternative route to higher education and supports those who don’t meet the standard entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. It includes a foundation year which helps develop your skills, build confidence, and foster creativity. The extended degree gives you the chance to establish a strong academic foundation while exploring a wide range of creative art disciplines within film, media, and theatre.
What will I learn in my Foundation Year?The foundation year of this course is dedicated to developing the fundamental skills needed to grow as a critical and reflective arts practitioner, covering practical, intellectual, and creative aspects. You will engage with topics such as effective communication, teamwork, time and project management, research, and digital literacy. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in dynamic and challenging studio environments. As part of the year, you will complete an assessed portfolio, which may include various components like performances, short films, artwork, and live practice.The foundation year of the course delivered at level 3 which develops your ability to study in Higher Education is not accredited. Subsequent levels and years are accredited and deliver the knowledge, competencies, and skills required to meet the specific course accreditation requirements that relate to the approved accredited award title.
