You can combine Media and Communications Joint Honours with a wide range of subjects at Derby – the full list can be found in the subject options below. **Please ensure you add the second subject you wish to combine with Media and Communications in the further details section when adding your choice in apply.**- You can take work based learning modules, gaining work experience in the media industry, so you'll have experience on your CV and you'll earn credits towards your degree- Broaden your skills and knowledge by combining Media Communication with another subject, opening up an even wider range of career paths- Study abroad with your Humanities degree and seize the opportunity of a lifetime.- You'll develop a high level of media literacy and an understanding of forms of media power and manipulation.During stage one you will be introduced to a range of theoretical and methodological approaches in the study of the media, including theories of language and meaning, audiences, media industries and the historical contextualisation of media forms and institutions and the importance of new forms of digital media.At stage two you will study modules covering cultural studies approaches to the media and have the option to take modules examining news media, cult media and subcultures and television, gain skills in audience research or gain work experience through work based learning.In stage three you will have the option to take an Independent Study where you will have the chance to study a research topic of your choice. There will be the opportunity to take work experience based study or take modules exploring communication, media and politics, documentary, media and surveillance or videogames.
