You’ll be working with experts to ensure that you are learning the most up to date and relevant techniques, from the moment your course begins, to ensure that you are fully prepared for a career in the media make-up sector.The highly experienced tuition team have dedicated themselves to refining and improving the teaching facilities to give you the best learning experience possible. The Media Make-up team have created close links with film and TV production companies across the UK. Many of the tutors still work in the media industry, enabling students to benefit from work experience on TV productions including ‘CBeebies’, ‘TOWIE’, ‘Vera’ and ‘Emmerdale’ and Films including ‘Dads Army’, ‘I, Daniel Blake’, ‘Clash of The Titans’ and ‘The Kings Speech’. Our students have also worked at some of the UK’s largest production companies including productions at MediaCityUK and BBC Wales, as well as working with well-established theatre companies in York itself, including The Theatre Royal, The Grand Opera House York and Joseph Rowntree Theatre.You’ll be working with experts in the fields of Hairdressing, Special Effects Make-up, face casting, sculpting, the application of bald caps and prostheticson a programme which has been designed with feedback from industry professionals and teaching professionals to give you an unmatched learning experience.As you progress through the programme you will have the opportunity to specialise and create a portfolio of work tailored to your own progression route. A range of assessment methods is used within the modules including work-based assignments, case studies, presentations, projects, problem-based scenarios, simulations, portfolios, reflective assignments, learning journals and outcomes of negotiated learning contracts.Course themes include:- Continuity for film and TV- Make-up exploration for varying effects- Hair cutting and barbering for film and TV- Introduction to postiche- Wig work- Personal and professional development- Advanced make-up artistry skills- Dressing and styling hair for film and TV- Employability skills On successfully completing the course, you may wish to consider working as a freelance make-up or hair artist in TV and Film or work for companies specialising in special effects make up and prosthetics.
