Course summary

This interdisciplinary MA programme combines theoretical perspectives and hands-on media practice. You’ll be empowered to engage with global issues and drive meaningful change across industries, non-profits, and other key sectors. The course allows you to dive into critical and innovative approaches, including activist media, participatory media, broadcast media and data-driven media interventions. This is a unique interdisciplinary course. You’ll critically analyse development, democratisation processes and social change alongside gaining creative and technical media production skills. You’ll focus on media as tools for global, social and political change. There is a strong emphasis on the role of civil society and alternative media organisations. Activist media, citizen journalism, participatory media, specialised broadcast media and social media are successfully used to inform and engage audiences outside established channels of communication for issues such as: social inequality human rights gender issues environmental change. You’ll have access to cutting-edge facilities, expert-led masterclasses, and industry events. You can build a strong professional network and develop essential skills for today’s evolving media and communication landscape. You can also tailor your learning experience. Choose between practical or written dissertations and explore national and international placement opportunities.
