The MSc in Medical Leadership, Education and Research is designed to put you, as a doctor, at the centre of shaping your career. It is a practical and supportive leadership course for doctors. A framework is provided which enables you to develop your own area of interest and supports you with implementing an improvement project, in addition to learning about teaching and research. It will enable you to become a more able clinician, more patient-centred and more able to influence service delivery for patient benefit.

- Run in partnership with both Primary and Secondary Care Medics from Health Education England in the East Midlands
- Creates a forum for discussion across medical specialties
- Part-time and uses a mix of study days and distance-learning to enable you to work whilst studying
- Flexible options to undertake a postgraduate certificate / diploma or MSc. Extensive tutor support and feedback on your assessments
- Reciprocal arrangement with the Postgraduate Medical Education Certificate if you wish to qualify as a trainer
Teaching and assessment
The course is taught by a mix of attendance at the university and distance learning.
Attendance is required at six study days in year 1, five in year 2 and three in year 3. Students are also expected to commit to 6 hours a week self-study plus their 2 hours work time allocated for CPD a week, during semester times (2 x 18 week semesters per year).
Graduate careers
The specialist and learning skills you acquire are highly sought after in many different sectors of practice. Having an MSc is recognised by many employers as a stepping stone in career progression.
