Course summary
Medical sciences play an important role in everyone's lives. They help us understand how our bodies work, what can affect the way that it functions, and how we can fix problems when they arise. In this wide-reaching course, you'll learn about anatomy, histology, molecular and cell biology, pharmacology, physiology and therapeutics. You'll learn in purpose-built facilities at our modern Medical School at the Royal Derby Hospital. You'll be part of a small cohort of students, giving you a close relationship with tutors and colleagues. There's an emphasis on hands-on experience, with small-group lab sessions and the opportunity to learn from prosected human cadavers in our anatomy suite.Optional modules allow you to tailor your degree across areas that you are interested in and develop skills for your future career - for example radiography. You'll also get the chance to visit external organisations like the Cancer Imaging Centre at the University of Oxford.Previous graduates have progressed on to further study in a wide range of areas including medicine and other healthcare professions. Many students have also pursued careers in care settings and in the clinical research and pharmaceutical industries.
