Summary:Be there for life’s most important moments. On this Midwifery degree, you will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to support women and families through pregnancy, birth and beyond.Midwifery is where science meets compassion. You will explore the physical, psychological and social aspects of care, learning how to support both straightforward and complex pregnancies while making a real difference to people’s lives.At Southampton, ranked 3rd in the UK for Midwifery as per Guardian rankings 2026, your learning is grounded in research and real clinical experience, preparing you for a rewarding career in healthcare.Key features of the course:• Opportunity to undertake an elective placement in the UK or abroad, gaining valuable insight into different maternity care systems and cultures• Qualify with both a Midwifery degree and the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) qualification, enhancing your clinical expertise and employability• Research is embedded throughout the course, with opportunities to explore topics that interest you through two research-focused assignments• Opportunity to disseminate and publish your research work, supporting your development as an evidence-based practitioner• Smaller student cohorts create a supportive learning environment with personalised academic support and strong peer connections.Student support:From day one, you will be supported on campus and in practice by a network of academic staff, including your Personal Academic Tutor and senior tutors.You will also be part of a supportive student community, with opportunities to reflect on your experiences through initiatives such as Schwartz Rounds.Further information:This course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and on graduation you will be eligible to register as a midwife.The NHS Learning Support Fund may be available to support your studies. If you are a UK applicant, you may be eligible for £5,000 per academic year, depending on your circumstances.
