Course summary
Study literature and culture from a global perspective whilst gaining fluency in your chosen language. At Leeds, you can combine English with one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai.You’ll study literatures in English, from Old English to Jane Austen and Shakespeare, Romantic poetry, American and African literatures. Whether starting from scratch, or with an A-level, you’ll reach a professional standard in your chosen language through intensive learning and your year abroad. You’ll explore literatures from across the world, and study other cultures and societies while focusing on the countries where your language of choice is spoken. In your final year, you can enhance your translation skills or business language. You’ll also develop your independent project.With this joint honours degree you’ll gain the language, communication and professional skills to prepare you for an international career across many sectors.
