Course summary

Our four-year BA Modern Languages with Education degree programme with a Year Abroad is aimed at students wanting to develop their language skills in French, German or Spanish, alongside specialist studies in digital learning in education and technology enhanced learning. You will spend a year abroad either on a paid British Council Language Assistant work placement or studying at one of our partner universities. This Year Abroad will provide you with valuable experiences, boosting your student experience and employment prospects. You will also have the opportunity to undertake placements in schools, local authorities, businesses or charities. Alongside your language studies, you will undertake education related modules such as curriculum and assessment, and protecting and promoting wellbeing in education. You will benefit from access to excellent resources at our Singleton Park campus, including access to our dedicated language labs and weekly language cafes where you will get the chance to interact with native speakers in the languages you are studying. Outside of your studies you can further connect with native speakers through our many clubs and societies including the French, German and Hispanic Societies. Modern languages at Swansea is ranked 6th in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2024). Research in Modern Languages at Swansea has been rated as internationally excellent and world-leading (REF 2021). Our graduates develop many transferable skills and go on to have successful careers in education, translation and interpreting, journalism and public relations, government and humanitarian organisations, business and commerce, and public services.
