Course summary

Research overview

The School of Life Sciences is a vibrant research environment which provides a focus for biological, ecological and biomedical research at the University of Nottingham. The wide-ranging interests and expertise of academic supervisors means that research projects are available from single molecule analyses through to studies at the level of whole organisms and ecosystems. A multi-disciplinary research and training programme is strongly supported in this environment. We can offer projects for an award in Integrated PhD in Molecular Biology.

Integrated PhDs allow students to undertake taught courses in addition to the research degree. The School of Life Sciences offers access to higher level undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in all aspects of biochemistry, physiology, genetics and ecology, chosen specifically with you to complement your research degree.

Research facilities

We have excellent facilities for genomics and post genomics including micro-arrays, sequencing, proteomics, imaging, mouse and zebrafish transgenics, model organisms (bacteria, yeast, worms, flies, arachnids, fish, amphibians, crustaceans and mammals) and bioinformatics.

We also foster interactions and discussions of current research with several internal themed discussion groups which include postgraduates, postdoctoral fellows and academic staff. We provide an environment for pursuing research in a fruitful and productive fashion leading to further development as scientists.
