Course summary
This MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy provides opportunities for qualified physiotherapists, whether trained in the UK or internationally, to further develop their knowledge, skills, and expertise. For internationally trained physiotherapists, the programme supports the transference of knowledge and skills to different healthcare contexts within a global employment market, including UK practice.
For physiotherapists already registered and practising in the UK, you have the option to choose between two routes. In the first year, you can either select the two enhanced practice modules or follow an alternative master's route.
The programme will help you identify, evaluate, and map your knowledge, skills, and behaviours, and align portfolio evidence with relevant professional standards. As a graduate, you will be prepared for roles as physiotherapists in a variety of health and social care settings.
You will:
- Learn to identify contextual and cultural factors influencing patient care and adapt appropriately to those factors.
- Develop skills required for effective, evidence-based physiotherapy, including an understanding of research roles, planning, and methods of enquiry.
- Explore the relevance of research, leadership, and education alongside clinical expertise, including communication, mentoring, supervision, and delegation skills.
- Think critically and challenge appropriately to make well-justified decisions that are safe, person-centred, and equitable.
- Enhance your professional development opportunities, including reflection, evaluation, action planning, and evidencing achievements.
- Develop advanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients relevant to your area of practice and specialism.
