Course summary
The MSc Digital Humanities and Data Science is a master's program that equips you with the skills to apply advanced data science methodologies to questions within the humanities. You will learn to use computational methods for working with data-such as text, image, and cultural records-while also situating these methods within critical humanities thinking. A core focus of the program is how to embed a justice-oriented approach in data science, with particular emphasis on themes like climate, feminist, queer, and racial justice. Key compulsory modules include: Methods in Humanities Data Science: Develops practical computational skills. Principles of Humanities Data Science: Focuses on ethical and justice-oriented approaches. Your future career The program prepares you for either further academic studies (PhD) or a professional career applying data science skills in diverse fields. The course includes an optional Humanities Data Science Placement module, offering the opportunity to apply your skills in an industry setting and develop practical employability skills within relevant industry contexts. Key features of this course Interdisciplinary Focus: The curriculum deliberately combines data science techniques with critical humanities subjects (e.g., cultural heritage, literary studies, ethics). Practical Experience: You have the opportunity for an industry-based placement to apply your burgeoning data science skills. Final Project: The degree culminates in the Digital Humanities Research/Professional Project, where you can choose between a traditional dissertation or a project that responds to an industry problem using humanities data science techniques. Further information This is a full-time master's course. The program features modules that cover technical skills like Data Management for Humanities Research and critical topics like Digital Forms and Literary Industries and New Media. The full-time tuition fees for UK students are £12,400 and for International students are £25,400 (for entry in academic year 2026-2027).
