Course summary
Can historical stock prices help us design a profitable trading strategy? How much do sovereign credit ratings influence global capital flows? And could the price of a McDonald’s Big Mac really indicate if a currency is under- or over-valued? These are just a few of the fascinating real-world questions you'll explore on our MSc in International Business Finance and Economics. Part of UEA’s renowned Applied Training Programme, this MSc is ideal for those without a background in economics who want to gain a strong foundation in economic principles-with a specialised focus on financial economics and international finance. Our dynamic teaching approach blends lectures, workshops, student presentations, group activities, IT lab sessions, and guest lectures from industry and academic experts. Here at UEA, you'll benefit from research-led experience, as many of our faculty are actively working at the cutting edge of finance and economics. From day one, you’ll be set up for success with our intensive pre-sessional training, ensuring you’re confident in core areas like calculus, matrix algebra, and STATA-an essential tool in today’s econometrics landscape. Throughout the year, you’ll also receive extensive hands-on training in Python and other essential data science tools, along with guidance on using online data sources to enhance your dissertation and other research. You’ll dive deep into business and international finance, with a strong focus on the international economy, gaining specialist knowledge in this field. Your dissertation is your chance to shine-independently researching a topic you’re passionate about, supported by expert supervision and the opportunity to collaborate with real-world organisations for invaluable work-based experience. Alongside first-class academic training, you’ll enjoy a vibrant student experience, with access to our outstanding extracurricular and sporting opportunities-all set in the historic and lively city of Norwich.
