Course summary
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) plays a vital role in health and social care today. This British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accredited course is delivered by a team of highly qualified psychotherapy and counselling staff from various professional backgrounds.
You will learn how to use CBT creatively and collaboratively with clients, including assessing, formulating, providing interventions, and evaluating your own practice.
Please Note: This programme is not available to applicants requiring a Student Visa.
You will:
- Explore new developments in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
- Focus on interventions for clients with conditions ranging from anxiety and depression to personality disorders and schizophrenia.
- Study on a BABCP-accredited course.

- You have at least one year's experience in a mental health setting and a strong interest in cognitive behavioural work.
- You have the ability to understand and respond to people's reactions.
- You are patient and can remain calm in stressful situations.
All about the course
The course provides insights into using CBT creatively and collaboratively. It includes working with clients who have a range of needs, from anxiety and depression to complex conditions like personality disorders and schizophrenia. Opportunities to study new developments related to mindfulness and compassion-focused therapy are also available.

What will I be doing?
Teaching
The course employs blended learning methods, including:
- Seminars and master classes
- Critical analysis of case studies, literature, and research
- Practical applications through role play and skills assessment
- Use of video/audio recordings
- Blackboard for learning resources
You will focus on enhancing self-awareness and using CBT tools and techniques, practising on yourself before applying them to clients.

Assessment methods include:
- Tutor and peer practical in-class assessments
- Case studies
- Reflective assignments and portfolios of learning
What about after uni?
This master's course addresses the need for professionals skilled in working with clients with complex needs or mild to moderate mental health issues. Many students report enhanced career prospects or new career pathways upon completion.

The course was developed in response to a request from the North West Strategic Health Authority. Some students may use a Service Level Agreement to fund their studies, while others may self-fund or seek employer funding.
