Course summary
Research in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering takes a multi-disciplinary and modern approach to Chemical Engineering, integrating world-leading analytical infrastructure and state-of-the-art physical science. The breadth of our capabilities allows us to take a true ‘atoms-to-products’ approach to process engineering and design, with impact across virtually all industrial sectors. To complete a postgraduate research programme, you’ll need to be dedicated and passionate about your area of study. But it’ll be well worth it. Being a doctoral student is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding. You are expected to carry out a programme of research in a particular area under the supervision of a primary supervisor and one or more co-supervisors.Our research focuses on the science and applications of light from X-rays to mid-infrared wavelengths. We use and develop novel light sources, including advanced lasers and X-rays for spectroscopy and materials characterisation, bio and chemical sensors and imaging, materials processing and integrated optical devices engineering. These are important for technological breakthroughs with the objective of ‘Photonics for Life’.
