Course summary

Music surrounds us. It has a profound effect on us as individuals and shapes wider society. At Nottingham you’ll learn both how it does this and how your creativity can produce music that people will remember.Our students share a grounding in the basic building blocks of music. You’ll examine these across styles, genres, cultures and traditions, and combine practical skills with a depth of academic understanding. You then have the freedom to pursue your own interests. If you want to specialise in musicology, performance, composition or technology you can. Alternatively you can explore more widely across our diverse mix of modules. Work Placement module that is carefully designed to help you look beyond your degreeOur facilities support your choices. We have purpose-built spaces to compose, rehearse, perform, record and experiment, and paid-for tuition with experienced professionals for performance modules. The opportunities to perform are almost endless - student ensembles, on-course groups, university-wide orchestra and choir, as part of the city's dynamic music scene.This course is also available with a Foundation Year. You may also combine Music with Philosophy in our joint honours programme, or study alongside multiple disciplines in our BA Liberal Arts.
