Course summary
This degree combines professional placements in community healthcare settings with state-of-the-art simulation, which is embedded throughout our course and allows our students to experience real life scenarios within the safety of the University setting. Graduates will be eligible to register as a childrens nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery council. On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice (Child)The course consists of a variety of modules, which are designed to enable the integration of theory with practice incorporating evidence and research. Care, compassion and values-based family centred care is a central theme throughout. From the beginning of your studies, you will be given the opportunity to learn about the care needs of children, young people and their families, along with some shared learning between child, adult and mental health fields of nursing on common themes relevant for all during your course.There will also be opportunities to work collaboratively with a range of different health care professionals. There is also an emphasis on service user and carer involvement.CareersGraduate Earning potentialNursing is a career that offers excellent prospects and earning potential. On qualification you will start on over £25k and with experience and further development & training you have the potential to reach positions in advanced clinical practice where you could earn over £49k.Graduate destinationsEmployment opportunities for nurses are varied and exciting. Our graduates find employment with a range of local and national employers. They work in a variety of community and hospital settings, including internationally renowned childrens hospitals within general and specialist wards and departments. Some take the opportunity to use their internationally recognised qualification to work abroad.Employment opportunitiesCompletion of this course will give you an academic qualification and will lead to eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a childrens nurse. You will have the ability to gain graduate employment as a childrens nurse working in a diverse range of settings.
