Course summary

Nursing is about more than caring for patients. Nursing is grasping the importance of policy, exploring clinical leadership and understanding how research influences decision making. By the time you graduate from King’s College London, you’ll have the skills and confidence to kick-start your career as an adult nurse and deliver, develop, lead and research healthcare practice. This MSc is designed to give you the knowledge you need to begin a rewarding career as an adult nurse, whatever your background. But you’ll need to have some healthcare related experience to join us. Half of your time will be spent gaining practical experience on placements. The other half will be learning from our experts to understand theoretical areas, including care delivery, research principles and clinical leadership.

Course detail

The overall aims of the course are to enable graduates to acquire advanced understanding, knowledge and skills in nursing in order that they may deliver, develop, lead and research healthcare practice. In addition, the course aims to ensure that nurses who graduate are skilled, competent, compassionate professionals who have satisfied the academic and clinical requirements and standards as stipulated in the Nursing & Midwifery Council Standards of Proficiency and the academic requirements of King’s College London for the award of a Master’s degree. As well as possessing the skills and knowledge to perform competently in a variety of clinical practice environments, the course enables you to lead, support and plan the delivery of high quality care to patients and their families, and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Teaching and assessment

The course includes an equal balance of theoretical learning and clinical placements with partner healthcare providers including leading NHS Trusts and private and voluntary organisations. The course is full-time, and you will be working shift patterns similar to that of qualified nurses.

Career prospects

Graduates who qualify from our courses gain professional registration as a nurse from the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Many of our qualifying nurses gain employment in prominent London NHS Trusts, while others choose to work elsewhere in the UK and abroad.
