Course summary

This course is designed for those located within the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, Cheshire and Merseyside, North West, Cumbria or North Lincolnshire. If you are located outside these areas, please visit Health Education England for information on your nearest course provider.From the very start of this course, you’ll get the chance to develop the vital skills, values, and confidence needed to care for children, young people, and their families, whatever their circumstances. This includes those with acute illness, long-term conditions or those who need help to maintain their health. This course provides a flexible way to study, using mainly digital technologies it also incorporates practical, hands-on experience. You’ll attend the campus in Huddersfield for a maximum total of 20 days per year of the course. This provides the opportunity for you to put your skills into practice in a safe and controlled environment in our children’s ward, using patient simulators and attending occupational health sessions and mandatory training.Clinical placements also provide opportunities for you to put what you’ve learned into practice in a variety of acute settings close to your home, such as children's wards, accident and emergency departments, and neonatal intensive care. Opportunities are available to work with specialist nurses in a range of community settings, including health centres, children's hospices, as well as mainstream and specialist schools.
