Course summary
**Course summary**• Develop the knowledge and practical skills to work as an occupational therapist.• Work with service users and practising clinicians, adding real-life scenarios to your learning.Occupational therapists assess and treat people who have difficulties carrying out everyday activities because of disability, illness, trauma, ageing, and a range of long-term conditions. On this course you study occupational therapy, personal and professional development, research and evidence based practice, the sciences, practice placement learning and interprofessional learning. The learning, teaching and assessment strategy on this course aims to ensure that qualifying students are fit for practice in accordance with the HCPC Standards of Education and Training (2017).Effective occupational therapy requires close collaboration and understanding of other professions to ensure better outcomes for people that use our services. You can learn with, from and about other professions within other health and social care courses. Examples include working in a community mental health team, a brain injury rehabilitation unit, social services, acute hospital ward, a children's service and a charity or voluntary service. All students on the course will undertake an extended scope placement which enables you to experience working outside the established role of an occupational therapist. This is a great opportunity for enhancing personal and professional skills relevant to practice.Networking opportunitiesOur student led subgroup of our local professional networks, SHOUT (Sheffield Hallam occupational therapy university team) organises monthly CPD events for clinicians, staff and students. It welcomes new students to the University and has an active presence on social media @SHOUTeventsWe have good links with our clinicians who provide practice placements and service users who are involved in our student events, such as open days. Specialist clinicians are also involved in teaching.**Accreditation**This course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
