Course summary

In the context of a world with escalating health problems, we must take an integrated approach to health and consider humans, animals, plants and the environment as one connected whole. The World Health Organisation, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the World Organisation for Animal Health and other organisations endorse the concept of One Health. It is about linking ideas, research and policies from multiple sectors to achieve better health outcomes. Whether you are from a medical, environmental, economic or social science background, at our world-class institution, we will teach you the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to work in a One Health context and help improve health for all.

WHY THIS PROGRAMME

  • Our online One Health programme seeks to explore an integrative approach to human, veterinary and ecological health, recognising the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations and the interconnectedness of public health, environmental issues, veterinary and human medicine.
  • One Health research at the University of Glasgow is vibrant and wide-ranging. Examples include the world-leading research being carried out into eliminating rabies, the surveillance of anthrax in Africa, and research on Lyme disease in the Outer Hebrides. It is this ongoing research that inspires the innovative, multinational ideas running throughout our multidisciplinary programme.
  • Throughout the One Health online programme, we also raise awareness of cultural and societal factors that influence how One Health approaches are translated into practice.
