You will demonstrate evidence-based practice which will prepare you for a rewarding career in paramedic science and will enhance your career opportunitiesThe curriculum focuses not only on developing lifesaving skills and clinical interventions, in a wide range of out-of-hospital settings, but also prepares you in providing care for a range of complex health needs in the 'in-hospital' or primary care setting being at the forefront of contemporary paramedic practice. You will develop your confidence and competence through engagement with real-life scenarios and through the use of specialist resources such as a fully equipped paramedic training ambulance, the skills labs, anatomy suite, high-fidelity simulation, multi-professional trauma days and major incident scenarios. The curriculum has been co-designed with a wide range of stakeholders, including practitioners, employers, commissioners, service users and students, ensuring you will begin your career with the relevant skills and experiences.High-quality placements, which inform 50% of the programme, are provided across the West Midlands region (with placements being co-designed by our key stakeholder, the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust), to provide the broadest range of experiences within acute, primary and community settings. This programme is delivered by experienced paramedic lecturers and other multi-professional specialist lecturers, building on the significant expertise in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. You will gain experience in a range of practice settings across the 4 years of the programme, and will be expected to engage with the full range of shifts to reflect the demands of the 24/7 service.During your fourth and final year of the degree programme, you will gain additional specialist clinical skills, develop research and leadership skills, and start to explore the role of prescribing in paramedic practice in preparation for an exciting career as a paramedic practitioner. On qualification you will achieve an Integrated Master's degree in Paramedic Science which provides eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (pending approval) as a registered Paramedic. Because the programme will utilise a rotational model as detailed by the Health Education England Rotating Paramedic Programme (2018), you will engage with a wide range of practice experiences to support improvement of patient experience and provide a range of career opportunities upon qualification. The 4-year programme will also prepare you with enhanced assessment skills, leadership and evidence based practice to support more rapid career development.
