Course summary

Overview

Study music performance at postgraduate level at the London College of Music (LCM) to support and extend your practical musicianship and benefit from focused, one-to-one instrumental tuition with internationally renowned recitalists.

You will explore a wide range of twentieth-century music and performance styles, and we will encourage you to experiment and develop your own style.

The course places particular emphasis on developing critical thinking and listening skills, as well as the leadership qualities that will support your career progression.

You will perform and learn with other students in workshops and master classes, and have the chance to take part in LCM's lively musical environment.

Course detail

This course will aid your development as a professional musician in a number of ways.

Through advanced practical sessions, you will improve your technical ability and become a more confident performer and interpreter of music.

By experimenting with different styles, you will expand your repertoire and potential.

Finally, you will also learn to evaluate situations, to communicate more effectively and to work productively with others. These transferable skills will be important when you have the opportunity to direct an ensemble later on in the course.

As part of LCM, you will be invited to attend our weekly postgraduate research seminars and popular composition workshops. These offer excellent opportunities to learn new skills and network with students from other postgraduate courses.

Study & career progression

Once you graduate, you could go on to work as a:

  • performing musician
  • one-to-one instrumental tutor
  • instrumental examiner
  • recital musician
  • researcher.

You could be eligible to study an LCM Doctor of Music (DMus).
