About the course

This course is aimed at healthcare professionals who wish to advance their knowledge and understanding, as well as develop new skills to a high level demonstrating the ability to analyse and interpret effective person centred care. The course aims to provide you with the skills required to demonstrate self-direction and originality in solving problems and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional level.

The course is designed to develop your existing knowledge and communication skills within person centred care.
You will be introduced to the theoretical and practical aspects of effective communication in your practice which will enable critical thinking surrounding service user care.
Informed consent, risk, care governance and patient safety all balanced with informing the decision making of the individual will be explored. As well as the principles of empowerment in health care together with motivational interviewing.
You will be taught by a team of passionate academics who have a wealth of skills, expertise and professional credibility.

Teaching and assessment

Learning and teaching is delivered through lectures and seminars. It is supported by the University’s virtual learning environment, Brightspace. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
