Course summary

Course Details

Train to be a primary teacher and embark on a career in schools teaching children between three and seven, in Key Stage 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage. We will develop your knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum to ensure your teaching fulfils the requirements set out by the Government. With an emphasis on mathematics, English and Science at both Key Stages, you will embrace areas of learning and principles of best practice in early primary education across all subjects. You will put your theoretical knowledge into practice. As part of your training, you will complete three teaching placements in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, developing your teaching skills across different age ranges and helping to prepare you for future employment. Throughout these placements you will gain the specialist knowledge and teaching skills required to meet the needs of pupils in the three to seven age range.

Course Benefits

We have more than 100 years' experience of teacher training and you'll benefit from an experienced course team determined to help you realise your potential. You will become part of a supportive teaching community, learning from fellow students and swapping ideas on lesson plans, classroom experiences and teaching tips. Thanks to a critically reflective approach to your learning, you will develop your own identity and teaching style and will feel empowered to deliver innovative lessons with confidence. To help prepare you for your course, you will have the opportunity to attend an outdoor experience during induction, where you will meet your tutors and fellow trainees, start to cultivate your support networks and discover how the outdoors can be used to deliver stimulating lessons. You will gain extensive training in a school environment. Many of the partnership schools are located in and around Leeds, limiting your travelling time and giving you more time to spend on your lesson plans. You will complete three teaching placements in at least two contrasting schools, receiving support from your school mentor and University tutors.
