Course summary
Course overview
Inspire the next generation to appreciate the excitement and importance of Chemistry in our world by sharing your passion for Chemistry.
We’ve designed our highly-rated PGCE Secondary Chemistry with QTS so that you will graduate knowing how to confidently devise and deliver interesting lessons to engage young minds about all aspects of this subject
You will be supported by our expert tutors to plan, resource and deliver lessons to pupils of all secondary ages and abilities. This means that you will leave the course knowing how to teach effectively while also maintaining the interest and enthusiasm of your pupils.
Our PGCE course includes QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and we will also help you apply for a position as a secondary school teacher during the course.
Course summary
You will begin by understanding the needs of individual learners and implementing key teaching strategies to help students engage with the subject. Working with individual groups of pupils in school, you will gradually build up to teach whole classes about topics such as particle theory, acids and alkalis, the reactivity series and many other exciting topics. You will learn how to organise practical work and also carry out many of the practical activities that are common in schools. You will also receive training in key stage 3 Physics and Biology reflecting the fact that in most schools you will be expected to teach all three sciences at key stage 3.
We believe that experience is not enough - it is also vital to be able to unpack and reflect on experiences. You will deconstruct classroom learning activities into their constituent parts, and then build them up again so that you can implement them effectively in the classroom. Your personal tutor at university will regularly meet with you to discuss your progress and you will also be visited in school by placement tutor. In school, both your subject and professional mentors, who offer a range of support and guidance, will support your ongoing development.
Your Career with a PGCE Teaching Qualification
With QTS built-in, you'll be able to apply for a position as a high school science teacher immediately after graduation.
