Course summary

As a Religious Education teacher, you’ll inspire students to explore the world’s diverse religions, worldviews and belief systems. You’ll promote open-mindedness through developing their critical thinking skills and cultural awareness, teach effective communication across cultures and prepare your students to thrive in our global society. The breadth of RE allows you to combine skills and knowledge from different areas. At Worcester, you can specialise in Religious Education or follow our Religious Education with Citizenship route.

Once offered a place, we will work with you to develop your subject knowledge offering 1:1 online tutorials, pre-course subject knowledge enhancement days, recommended reading and advice on funding to support your training.

With support from our highly experienced subject specialists and visiting speakers, you’ll discover the theories and practice behind effective teaching and learning and gain hands-on experience through your placement at a local school.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll have opportunities to work with local RE teachers to share best practice and discuss current developments and have the chance to visit different places of worship to further enhance your subject knowledge and provide inspiration for how you could teach your students outside the classroom.

Through our professional studies programme, your tutors will model effective teaching and classroom management strategies to support you with your teaching development whilst our enhancement activities will provide the chance to tailor the specific aspect of RE which most interests you. Examples include Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), PSHE & Citizenship and English as an Additional Language (EAL).

On completion of the course, you'll be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). QTS is awarded by the Teaching Regulation Agency in England.
