Course summary
Respectful of the complexities of teaching Welsh as a first or second language we will arm you with an understanding of the curriculum and progressive teaching and learning methodologies.
Working together with fellow language students, we will encourage and lead a culture of bilingual and multilingualism. There will be extensive opportunities for you to work together with students from cross-curricular subjects and through the medium of Welsh.
You will be prepared to teach Welsh as a first or second language and participate in our new Welsh Language Development Pathway designed to improve every student teachers’ Welsh from beginner to fluent.
On location in our partnership schools, you will receive high-quality mentoring to develop and transform pupils' experiences of the Welsh language across the secondary age range.
Course Overview
The PGCE is a full-time academic and professional programme, broadly comprising university-based provision of approximately 12 weeks, and at least 24 weeks based in a school.
Assessment
The programme offers 60 credits at Masters level and 60 credits at Graduate Level. These are awarded on successful completion of module assessments which include:
- Case studies
- Portfolios
- Video presentation
- Research Project
All assessments are closely linked to practice and are designed to offer you the opportunity to develop teaching and learning that has a positive impact on children and young people.
