Course summary

Our Secondary PGCE programme is designed to prepare you to teach your specialist subject to students aged 11-16 or 14-19. The course is structured to provide a blend of academic study and practical experience, ensuring you develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful teaching career. Led by experienced senior lecturers (who are qualified teachers with extensive teaching experience) and supported by a network of schools and colleges, our programme aims to help you meet the Teachers’ Standards and achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).Dance education does more than improve physical techniques and creative expression. It additionally empowers individuals to build their confidence, discipline and focus. Learning dance develops the skills of collaborative choreography and personal goal setting, as well as cultural awareness and inclusivity. Dance lessons allow students to develop a lifelong appreciation for this art form, performance skills, and the ability to challenge all abilities. Even if individuals do not pursue dance professionally, learners may go on to continue to enjoy dancing as a recreational activity. Our highly experienced and supportive course tutors guide you from dancer to dance teacher. In addition to your university sessions, you will spend two-thirds of the year in partner schools, working with school-based colleagues to develop your abilities to promote effective learning among 11-16-year-olds. This course is demanding and stimulating, creating competent and reflective dance teachers. If you would like an informal chat about the course, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
