Course summary

Why this course?

This one year full-time PGCE offers the opportunity to qualify to teach in the Post-16 sector. The course has been established to prepare graduates and experienced professionals in developing teaching knowledge and skills for teaching in Further and Higher Education.

You will teach on a range of courses that will give you the widest possible breadth of experience, including vocational courses for 16-18 year olds, Foundation Diplomas and Bachelor degrees. Uniquely, you will teach and learn in the same college, supported by professional mentors (experienced teachers) who will support you throughout the course.

You will use first class, industry-comparable resources and technologies to support your teaching. New library facilities, MAC suites, music recording studios and rehearsal rooms are just some of the many impressive facilities available.

This course content is expertly designed by the University of Brighton to assist you in becoming a forward thinking and reflective practitioner. It is devised with local and national initiatives and legislation in mind, so that you can be confident that your working knowledge is based on current theory and practice.

Students who complete this course successfully will have developed a personal teaching portfolio permitting them to compete for jobs in the Further Education sector, and not only this, many of our graduating teachers will take jobs in schools, universities and private training organisations because of their unique combination of talents, curriculum experience and confidence.
