Course summary

This course is delivered in partnership with the ICE Postgraduate Dental Institute and Hospital. This partnership will allow you as a student to gain hands on, supervised learning in a highly technical clinical setting at their facility in Salford Quays.

Key features of the course:

  • A focus on law, consent and ethics
  • You will work and learn alongside a world-leading expert in a purpose-built clinical facility
  • We focus on developing your clinical skills and fostering an approach to life long learning.
  • There are no complicated pathways. We focus on teaching the basics very well to allow you to demonstrate a thorough understanding.

The PgCert Programme in Non--Surgical Facial Aesthetics (NSFA) is aimed at dental practitioners, medical practitioners and nurses who are registered with the appropriate body (GDC, GMC) and have a relevant degree at level 6.

You will:

  • Develop core knowledge, skills and clinical competencies in NSFA
  • Learn about the current legislation and ethics in the field of NSFA
  • Benefit from the support of a mentor

Teaching:

A range of teaching methods will be used throughout the duration of the course. These include but are not limited to:

  • Lectures
  • Tutorials
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Seminars
  • Self-directed study
  • and online learning opportunities via our Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard)

Independent learning:

When not attending lectures, seminars and laboratory or other timetabled sessions you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. We advise you should take around 20 hours of independent study per week. Typically, this will involve reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, undertaking research in the library, preparing coursework assignments and presentations, and preparing for examinations. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities, including the library, the learning zone, and our engineering and computer laboratories.

Assessment:

Clinical and Academic skills are assessed by a range of formative and summative assessment techniques including:

  • ePortfolio of Clinical Learning
  • Essays
  • Oral Presentations
  • Observations and feedback on clinical skills

CAREER LINKS:

Implant Centre of Excellence (ICE) and the University of Salford run this PgCert programme jointly. As a learning centre, ICE consists of fully equipped teaching clinics, and an operating theatre that is enabled to digitally transmit live surgery.
