Course summary
Our research spans the continuum from basic to applied translational science and clinical practice. We have a diverse research portfolio and a range of research facilities.
The applied and multidisciplinary nature of our work benefits from worldwide scientific collaborations and strategic relationships with global businesses and public sector bodies that enable us to see the real-world impact of our research.
You will study and work in a self-contained multi-disciplinary School, with great opportunities for collaboration with strongly related departments in all of the biomedical sciences in the same faculty, the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, or with the University’s Schools of Chemistry or Engineering.
We welcome applications from students interested in researching for a PhD in our specialist areas.
Substantial research opportunities exist in all of the pharmaceutical sciences and clinical pharmacy, with much of the research being multidisciplinary. Close collaboration between school and industry is a major reason why so many higher graduates eventually pursue successful careers within the pharmaceutical industry.
Research
We offer supervision and/or research projects in the following disciplines:
- Drug Delivery and Microbiology
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Pharmacology and Physiology
- Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy.
Research themes across these disciplines comprise:
- Experimental therapeutics and pharmaceutical sciences
- Drug discovery, design and synthesis
- Medicines optimisation and healthcare outcomes.
Our four research disciplines represent the resource platform for the maintenance and technical support of clusters of specialised equipment and facilities shared on a pooled basis throughout the school. Although staff are located within a specific discipline, much of the research is cross disciplinary and often involves collaboration with other groups within the University and elsewhere.
