Course summary
OVERVIEW
The PhD by Publication is designed for researchers and practitioners who are active in their field but do not have a PhD. Students on this programme will submit a portfolio of publications (which might mean journal articles, books, patent applications, exhibitions or performances) along with an analytical commentary. The portfolio of publications must represent a coherent contribution to research and demonstrate a depth of scholarship, criticality and originality comparable with that required by a traditional PhD. Route 2 is for candidates who already have a full portfolio of outputs published. This route lasts 6 months full time or 12 months part time.
RESEARCH CULTURE
We undertake innovative research that is rooted in industry, driven by the global environment and reflective of evolving business trends. Our research is collaborative and impactful; we work with regional, national and international enterprises to address technical, commercial and strategic challenges. We have recently launched two innovative new research centres: Future Economies and Decent Work and Productivity. These centres bring together researchers, business and communities in order to understand the key challenges facing enterprise in the 21st century, and how these challenges can be addressed in a way that is decent for workers and productive for organisations. Postgraduate researchers form an integral part of our research culture. You will benefit from an extensive programme of research training, designed to develop your subject-specific and transferable skills. You will also have the opportunity to attend a wide variety of seminars, symposiums and networking events to expand your intellectual horizons.COURSE STRUCTURE
This course is research based. You will independently conduct research into your own topic or a topic that we advertise. Your supervisory team will offer expert guidance throughout your studies and review work in progress. Each year, you will follow a programme of training and development to enhance your research methods, subject-matter expertise and professional skills.CAREER PROSPECTS
You will develop industry recognised, practical subject knowledge and have the opportunity to engage with employers and practitioners. You will be part of Manchester Met Business School, which has extensive associations with professional bodies and industry associations. Pursuing a research degree allows you to enhance your own professional practice, gain a deep understanding of the challenges faced by 21st century enterprise, and develop a range of higher-level research and analytical skills. You will be well equipped to pursue a range of careers as a researcher or practitioner.Tuition fees
