In this course you can undertake independent research in an area of your choice, supervised and supported by a team of academics. You have access to a range of training opportunities to enable you to develop your research skills. The School of Fine and Performing Arts boasts extensive research expertise in the fields of drama, theatre and performance studies. Our team of academics can offer supervision and support as you conduct your research. Areas of specialism include playwriting, dramaturgy, scenography, musical theatre, Asian performance, intermediality and historiography, as well as practice as research and practice-based research. An PhD can be the starting point for an academic career and graduates may choose to progress to professional research or teaching in higher education.
