Course summary

Studying for your PhD in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies means that you'll become an expert in a specialist area and develop high-quality research skills, which will prepare you for further research projects in addition to pursuing specialist career paths. As a postgraduate researcher, you’ll conduct original research work under the guidance of your supervisors. You'll have regular meetings to monitor your progress and develop an initial training plan to make sure you are acquiring the appropriate skills for your research.Research in Italian studies at Leeds covers both literature and the arts in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and literature, society and culture of modern and contemporary times, including cinema and linguistic studies. Areas of excellence at national and international level are in particular Dante studies, Petrarch, its reception and exegesis, art in the Renaissance, popular cinema, the novel and short story in the 19th, 20th and 21st century, and the study of regional cultures.
