Our cluster explores the political ideas that have shaped the world we live in, analyses its deep structures of power and offers normative guidance concerning both political processes and substantive political decisions.York is a world-leading centre for the study of political theory. With a large number of political theorists, York offers unusual breath and richness in the discipline. Our research is pluralistic, combining analytic, critical, historical and feminist approaches.Areas of outstanding strength include early modern political thought, applied ethics, postcolonial theory, historical injustice, deliberative democracy, public reason, political representation, ethical partisanship, pragmatism, Open Marxism, the politics of expertise, the politics of self-determination and the politics of cultural diversity.
