Why study a PhD with us? World-leading research

98% of our research is recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent (latest Research Excellence Framework 2014). Research activity in the School is broad and extensive, with regular seminar programmes taking place in all research areas. Our School has expertise in cognitive neuroscience, psychopathology, personalised nutrition and language sciences.

Collaborations and funding

We have active collaborations with other departments and research centres within the University as well as with external institutions. We receive funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, Medical Research Council, and the wider University, and have a strong track record of securing funding from other public and private sector sources. We also offer a cotutelle PhD, where you study jointly at two different institutions, with our partner institution Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

Your life in the School

If you undertake your PhD with us, you’ll join an active community of PhD students in our School who are making a real impact with their research. You’ll also become part of a large, diverse community of doctoral students across the University. Our School collaborates with other University departments and research centres as well as with external institutions.
