Course summary

As a medieval city, Lincoln provides the perfect backdrop to undertake your research. You will have access to a wealth of local resources, including our established Medieval Studies Research Group. Research students can benefit from a broad range of academic expertise in Roman and medieval history of the British Isles, Western Europe, and the Mediterranean (with a focus on the Iberian Peninsula), along with gender and literary studies social, political, economic, legal, religious and cultural history archaeology medievalism and the history of emotions. Students have access to support and training which aim to develop the practical and critical skills necessary for investigation and study at doctoral level. The Medieval Studies Research Group organise research activities and events that provide a stimulating and inclusive environment in which postgraduate students are encouraged to contribute by discussing and debating theoretical concepts with fellow students, scholars, and visiting academics. Strong links exist within our College of Arts - specifically the Schools of Film and Media and English and Journalism. An interdisciplinary research culture facilitates collaboration with colleagues across a wide range of topics. For any specific queries, please contact the Programme Leader and/or any member of the Medieval Studies Research Group. Due to the nature of postgraduate research programmes, a significant amount of time will be spent in independent study and research. Full-time students will meet with their academic supervisors once a month part-time students will meet with their academic supervisors every other month.
