PhDs and research activity in the School cover a range of areas:

  • Finance, Accounting & Economics: corporate governance, risk management, Islamic Finance, computational finance, critical accounting, green accounting, accounting education, monetary policy, financial economics, forecasting, option pricing and stock markets.
  • Digital Business: social media, philosophy of systems, robotics, cyber security, data protection, digital transport systems, impact of technology on culture, ecommerce, mobile computing, technology and education, digital systems and society.
  • Labour Law and Employment Relations: the political role of Trade Unions across Europe, worker representation, migrant labour, conflict in the workplace, employment tribunals, professional and occupational regulation.
  • People Management: leadership, gender issues, change management, strategic HRM, diversity management, organisational behaviour, sensemaking, identities at work, wellbeing.
  • Law: human rights, international law, environmental law, the interface between international environmental, economic and institutional law, copyright and competition law, legal theory and history of the legal profession.
  • Marketing and Strategy: traditional and contemporary forms of marketing, services marketing, distribution channels, cross cultural issues, political marketing, consumer decision making, innovation and entrepreneurship, market entry, competitive strategy, tourism, events management.
  • Social Business: CSR and ethics, sustainability, social marketing, SME development, affordable housing for communities, education for social enterprise, social cohesion.
  • Operations and Information Management: big data and cloud systems for supply chain, project management, internet of things, lean, process optimisation, new product development, modelling and control of supply chain.
  • Sports Business: sports law and governance, commercial, managerial and geo-political aspects of sport, sponsorship issues, sports economics, ethics and decision making, the design of tournaments, sports and society.

Students can also exit with Mphil/MSC by Research awards.
