Course summary
Researchers in the Eye and Vision Sciences group work on basic science and clinical projects to improve our current understanding of the structure and function of the human visual system and to translate new knowledge into useful clinical tests. Our PhD/MPhil Ophthalmology programme enables you to undertake a research project that will improve your understanding of Ophthalmology.Our postgraduate research in Ophthalmology follows several key themes:Ocular imaging using a spectrum of innovative techniquesExploring the challenges relating to the appropriate measurement and management of patients with low visionVisual psychophysics and ocular electrophysiologyEvaluating function and dysfunction across a diverse range of ophthalmic conditionsVisual optics and determinants of optimal visual performanceContact lenses and the corneaLearn from some of Europe's leading researchers while undertaking your own project.Access some of the best research facilities in the world at both the University and in hospitals around Greater Manchester.Undergo training in transferable skills critical to developing early-stage researchers and professionals through the Doctoral Academy's training programme.Conduct research at a university ranked 6th in the UK (QS World University Rankings 2022).
