We are a research-led university and the Department of Film, Television and Media Studies is comprised of a world-leading team of academic staff. We are committed to improving the understanding of how media impacts culture and society today, globally and nationally, as well as locally and in the community. Our postgraduate researchers have opportunities to work at the heart of active research groups, challenging boundaries and making real advances.

As a postgraduate research student, you will work closely with an expert and experienced academic supervisory team committed to supporting your independent research, and helping you make your own mark. We have a wealth of remarkable academics, but how do you know which supervisor will be right for you?

Staff research interests in Film, Television and Media Studies include: British film and television; Genre in film and television; Media consumption; Feminist media studies; Popular music; Adaptation studies; Cultural studies; Health humanities; World cinema; Community arts and media; Global popular culture; Use the Department’s webpages to get to know our academic staff members and read up on—better still, read—some of their publications. We recommend that you identify at least one member of staff in the Department who might be your supervisor. Please contact your potential supervisor to express your interest and discuss your research proposal.
