PhD Sport and Exercise Psychology

In this course we offer supervision in all areas of staff expertise in sports and exercise psychology. It is also possible to study non-invasive measurements of brain function within our Department of Biological Sciences and via collaborations with the cognitive neuroscience laboratory in our Department of Psychology. Methods include EEG, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). A research degree gives you the chance to investigate your chosen topic in real depth and reach a profound understanding. In communicating that understanding, through a thesis or other means, you have a rare opportunity to generate knowledge.

A research degree allows you to develop new high-level skills, enhance your professional development and build new networks. It can open doors to many careers. Our graduates go on to a range of careers. Some work in biomedical laboratories and in the biotechnology industry, both in research and development, and in sales. Other careers include work with governmental and non-governmental environmental agencies and organisations, or teaching in schools and colleges.
