You’ll open your mind to philosophical questioning, be exposed to a diverse range of philosophers and acquire a logical toolbox of skills to improve your professional abilities and develop your skills as a social scientist. Contemporary issues in politics are explored focusing on concepts of power, democracy and terrorism. You’ll also investigate the contemporary threats facing global democracy such as misinformation, artificial intelligence and the rise of populism, and learn how to apply philosophical concepts to critical issues such as environmental degradation. Studying these two disciplines together will provide you with the foundations to think about what is right and wrong and apply these principles to real-world contexts such as everyday problems and political and policy decisions. We have compared the positivity ratings of all participating UK institutions using the NSS 2025 sector data to determine Keele's position relative to other broad-based universities (i.e. excluding specialist institutions and further education colleges).
