Course summary

Philosophy can be a transformative subject. It is worth doing for its own sake and for its ability to shape lives, institutions, and society.Philosophy is fed by curiosity and wonder, anger and injustice, confusion and a desire to make sense of ourselves and the world.Our core curriculum covers traditional areas such as ethics, reasoning and logic.We also offer an unusually wide range of optional modules. You can:- explore crime and justice, race and gender, politics and religion- examine emerging areas like environmental and social philosophy- discover the Western, Indian and Chinese traditionsPhilosophy trains you to argue persuasively and think deeply. But we go further than this. Our curriculum includes the unique Communicating Philosophy module. Teaching involves professionals such as lawyers and journalists. They will help you apply your philosophical skills to a range of careers.This course is also available with a Foundation Year. You may also combine it with Politics and Economics, Religion and Ethics, Theology, Economics, Psychology, Classical Civilisation, English, Music, French and Physics in our joint honours programme, or study alongside multiple disciplines in our BA Liberal Arts.No prior academic experience of philosophy is required.
