Course summary
- Study neurology, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular respiratory physiotherapy from your first year.- Learn with, from and about other healthcare professionals.- Understand the principles and theory of exercise.- Go on clinical placement at the end of your first year and have the opportunity to go on an overseas visit in your third year.On this course, you’ll learn to help and empower those affected by physical injury, illness and disability, and maximise their functional ability. You’ll gain valuable skills, qualifications and accreditation — ready to embark on a rewarding career.**How you learn**This course is based around structured academic and placement experience. You’ll develop the skills you need to manage diverse health and social care problems — gaining a critical, proactive approach to learning. When you graduate, you’ll be ready to work autonomously as a physiotherapist and make a real difference to the lives of individuals and communities.You will have the opportunity to gain a level 2 Fitness Instructor award and level 3 Exercise Referral award as part of the course. These enhance your skills in exercise prescription, as well as your employability.**You learn through**- tutor-facilitated sessions- lectures- specialist visiting lecturer sessions- group work- presentations- tutor-directed learning- self-directed learning- flipped classroom- independent learning- simulation, workshops and role play- technology-enhanced learning- practice-based learning**Applied learningWork placements**During the course you will undertake clinical placements within a range of different settings. Your first four week placement takes place at the end of the first year. In years two and three, placements build from six to eight weeks, allowing you to apply your knowledge and enhance your practical physiotherapy experience.In year three opportunities include an overseas visit, Master's study taster days and college-based programmes such as the leadership training scheme.**Networking and volunteering opportunities**Volunteering opportunities include becoming a student representative or ambassador for the course, department or Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. You can also volunteer at sporting events such as the Sheffield Half Marathon as a student physiotherapist, or help organise events on behalf of the Sheffield Hallam University Physiotherapy Society Committee.Sheffield Hallam Students' Union offer a variety of volunteering opportunities in healthcare settings enabling you to develop your skills throughout the course and gain further relevant experience.
