Course summary

The MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) provides a contemporary research-enhanced curriculum with a minimum of 1000 hours of professional practice experience and an accelerated route into the profession. It is an ideal study pathway for graduates with a related first degree wishing to become physiotherapists.

The programme will prepare you for working independently and with teams to provide high-quality, person centered care that aims to optimize health, function and well-being for individuals and to promote living well and self-management for populations and people living with long term conditions.

The programme has a strong emphasis on skill development for effective communication, evidencebased practice, professionalism and leadership in healthcare, alongside promoting a systematic understanding of the core principles underpinning physiotherapy practice to guide clinical reasoning and health promotion.

On completion of the programme graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Career prospects:

On completion of the programme, you will be able to apply for registration to practise as a physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This enables you to practise in a wide variety of settings and is mandatory for employment within the NHS. You will also be eligible to apply for full membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

Whilst a significant majority of recent graduates go on to work in healthcare including the NHS, they are increasingly taking on roles in emerging areas for Physiotherapists including Social Care, Public Health, sports and leisure, clinical and academic research and other graduate opportunities.
